1. Introduction

December 31, 1996 law n. 675, containing provisions for the protection of persons and other subjects regarding the processing of personal data, was repealed by Legislative Decree June 30, 2003 n. 196, which introduced the new personal data protection code. The Decree 196/2003 lays down, inter alia, that the person concerned should be informed in advance regarding the use of data concerning him.
